Abstract:

Recently, the use of N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) iridium complexes as catalysts in many organic transformations has increased dramatically. These iridium complexes have great advantages including their remarkable tunable character, the ease of synthesis and the high stability. Among the many catalytic applications of NHC-Ir complexes, hydrogen transfer (HT) reactions have received great attention in the last decade. In this presentation, our latest results on transfer hydrogenation (TH), acceptorless dehydrogenation (AD), the formation of C-C and C-N bonds via hydrogen autotransfer (HA), and reductive amination (RA) reactions catalyzed by Ir-NHC complexes will be discussed in detail.

Short Biography of the Speaker:

Süleyman Gülcemal studied Chemistry and received his Ph.D. in Inorganic Chemistry from Ege University in 2010. Dr. Gülcemal visited Laboratoire de Chimie de Coordination (LCC Toulouse) twice during his Ph.D. studies on organometallic chemistry and catalytic applications of ferrocenyl N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) ligands. In 2015, he moved to the UK to pursue his post-doctoral research for one year on the application of NHC-iridium complexes in hydrogen transfer reactions at the University of Liverpool under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Jianliang Xiao. Dr. Gülcemal is currently working as a Professor in Ege University Department of Chemistry. His research is mainly focused on developing NHC-metal complexes for catalytic hydrogen transfer reactions.
