Associate Professor Ferdi Karadas of Bilkent Chemistry Department has been selected to receive the prestigious Georg Forster Research Award of Humboldt Foundation, after a nomination from Friedrich Schiller University and Leibniz Institute for Photonic Technology in Germany. He was recognized for his pioneering work on developing low-cost and robust catalytic systems for water splitting.

The Georg Forster Research Award is given out by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, which provides up to six such awards annually. The award is granted in recognition of a researcher’s entire body of achievements to date. This award is open to academics in all disciplines whose fundamental discoveries offer significant impact on their own discipline and beyond. Recipients of this award are also expected to continue developing research-based solutions to the specific challenges facing transitional and developing countries.
Award winners are invited to carry out research projects of their choice in cooperation with relevant experts in Germany. Along these lines, Assoc. Prof. Ferdi Karadaş will be collaborating with Prof. Dr. Benjamin Dietzek-Ivanšić to unravel the charge transfer mechanism in iron-sensitized water oxidation photoanodes.
